Vino: La Spinetta Toscana Vermentino

I was first introduced to the Italian varietal Vermentino during my time studying in Florence. My food and wine professor, Giancarlo, paired a tuscan vermentino with delicate prosciutto sformatto cups filled with rich italian cheeses. It’s a light bodied white wine, mostly originating from Sardinia. If you like pinot grigio–this may be a new wine to try.

I was gifted a bottle of La Spinetta Toscana Vermentino from my parents from our favorite, cherished small wine shop in Fort Lauderdale. As I sipped it, I fell in love with the fresh, acidic, crisp yet balanced herbal pear notes. This IGT wine is not made in the traditional Sardinia, but rather in Tuscany.”La Spinetta” translates to “top of the hill”, which perfectly characterizes this small Tuscany town of Terricciola. The vintage 2015, which I am lucky enough to have, was rated 90 points by James Suckling–one of the top wine critics. Overall, this is a perfect choice for a nice dinner with your loved ones, priced at about $20. It would pair well with light risottos, chicken dishes, seafood, or even a light pizza.
