2012 Bottega Vinaia Pinot Grigio DOC
Recently while enjoying a lovely meal at a modern Greek restaurant in Fort Lauderdale, I discovered a beautiful Pinot Grigio with the perfect balance of structure and refresh. It is pale straw in color and made of 100% pinot grigio grapes. I ordered it knowing that I love pinot’s from the region of northern Italy known as Trentino. It the region of Italy probably most well known for its white wines due to the climate and terrain conditions.
The wine boasts a floral bouquet with a semi persistent nose which can be uncommon in a pinot grigio. It is fresh, flavorful, and structured acidity making it a perfect wine to pair with seafood dishes or light colored meats such as chicken and pork. I enjoyed this wine with a greek meal of fresh feta, tomatoes, octopus, and tzatziki and I absolutely loved it. I’ll be on the search to find this at Total Wine for sure! I’m not quite sure what it retails for yet but it was priced at $34 at the restaurant so it should be perfectly affordable.
On a side note, the restaurant was AMAZING. It is a relatively new restaurant called THASOS Greek Taverna in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. I highly recommend it if you are looking for a modern take on Greek food with a beautiful atmosphere.
